What is Acne? (Grade 1)

CHARACTERISTICS

Grade I acne is the mildest form of acne. There maybe minor pimples but they are small, appear only very occasionally, and in small numbers (one or two) blackheads and milia(small pimples) will be found, sometimes in great numbers, but there is no inflammation. Grade I acne is commonly seen in early adolescence, especially in the nose and/or forehead. Many adults also experience grade I acne, blackheads on the nose and forehead. Milia are commonly found in the eye area and chin

TREATMENTS*

– AHA PEELS -mild glycolic or Lactic acid

– Very Superficial peels- Salisilic acid

– LED lights

– Microdermabrasion

Treating acne while it is still in its early stages helps prevent acne from progressing, especially in teens. Grade I acne may progress to Grade II if left untreated

What is Acne? (Grade 2)

CHARACTERISTICS

Grade II is considered moderate acne. There will be blackheads and milia, generally in greater numbers. You will start seeing more pimples and the formation of whiteheads (pimples with puss) in this stage. They will appear with greater frequency, and general breakout activity will be more obvious. Slight inflammation of the skin is now apparent. In teens, you may see the acne progress from the nose and forehead to other areas of the face. Acne may start to affect the chest and shoulders, with occasional breakouts on the back, especially in males. Adult women may find greater breakout activity in the cheeks, chin, and jaw line area, especially just before and during the menstrual cycle.

TREATMENTS*

– AHA PEELS – mild glycolic or lactic acid

– Very Superficial peels –Salisilic acid

– LED lights

– Microdermabrasion

In addition to a salicylic acid, a benzoyl peroxide lotion can be used daily to help kill the bacteria that cause inflamed breakouts. Grade II acne may progress to Grade III, especially if pimples are habitually picked at or squeezed.

What is diamond microdermabrasion?

What is diamond microdermabrasion?

All skin types can benefit because it is so much gentler. It is also a great treatment for improving blackheads, oily or dull skin, dry patches, uneven skin tone, fine lines or wrinkles. It also treats enlarged or clogged pores, mild acne scars, sun damaged skin, and coarse skin texture. It also lightens age spots and hyper pigmentation, helps provide a youthful glow and appearance Some say it feels like sand paper or a cat’s tongue. The entire treatment is very relaxing and includes lymphatic facial massage. You’ll love the experience! Diamond Tipped Microdermabrasion treatments are progressive, we recommend a treatment series initially of once each week for 6 weeks, followed by a maintenance session every 4-6 weeks. On average, your skin renews every 28 days. As we get older, that renewal rate slows down. By altering the epidermis through deep exfoliation, cell renewal becomes stimulated and regulated. With a healthy, balanced skin, you can improve and eliminate many skin conditions and imperfections. We can tailor a program for you, talk with your practitioner about what you want to achieve.

What will my skin look like after Microdermabrasion treatment?

Most Microdermbrasion treatments will leave the patient red and irritated for a period of 2-24 hours. This is the typically a result of exposure to diamond tip. However, used in conjunction with the LED Light the irritations and redness disappear extremely quickly. Your skin will have a vibrant healthy appearance as well as an incredibly smooth texture

How to look after your skin after microdermabrasion treatment?

– Use a gentle, plain cleanser.

– Trauma such as scratching or picking the treated area should be avoided.

– Do not exfoliate at least for 3-5 days

– Avoid active ingridients

– It is important to avoid irritating the treated skin with harsh chemicals, rubbing or tanning for one week.

What are AHA and BHA

AHA – Alpha Hydroxy Acid

Alpha hydroxy acids are a group of natural acids found in foods. Alpha hydroxy acids include citric acid (found in citrus fruits), glycolic acid (found in sugar cane), lactic acid (found in sour milk), malic acid (found in apples), tartaric acid (found in grapes), and others. Various alpha hydroxy acids are applied to the skin (used topically) for moisturizing and removing dead skin cells, for treating acne and improving the appearance of acne scars, for improving the appearance of photo-aged skin, and firming and smoothing skin. Alpha hydroxy acids seem to work by removing the top layers of dead skin cells. They can also increase the thickness of deeper layers of skin, promoting firmness. Alpha hydroxy acids reduce the look of wrinkles, help to reduce the likelihood that winkles will develop, make skin smoother and (with months of daily use) can help skin that’s uneven and hyper pigmented become smoother and more even. It’s also believed that in addition to helping new younger looking and fresh skin to grow, alpha hydroxy acids also stimulate the growth of elastin and collagen, both of which become depleted with age

BHA – Beta Hydroxy Acid

Also known as salicylic acid, an ingredient that has multiple benefits for numerous skin types and concerns. It’s more effective at working deeper in the skin and eliminating clogging in the pores. Often both AHAs and BHA will be used together in skin treatments for problem skin for a thorough surface exfoliation and pore clean. BHA is commonly used in skin peel treatments to deal with acne and clogged skin.  Studies have documented BHA improve skin thickness, collagen production, wrinkling, roughness and hyperpigmentation. Beta hydroxy acids are lipid (oil) soluble. This means that they not only exfoliate the upper layer of skin, but also penetrate deep through the epidermis to exfoliate the dead skin cells and excess oil built up in the pores. Beta hydroxy acid also functions as both an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent, making it an ideal anti-acne ingredient. It’s imperative that anyone using this ingredient apply a broad spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen every morning, wait 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every couple of hours.

People who are allergic to salicylates (found in aspirin) should not use products containing salicylic acid Pregnant or nursing women should not use products containing salicylic acid.

How to prepare for ASAP chemical peel?

It is recommended that ASAP radiance serum be introduced to a client skin care routine two weeks prior to lactic, glycolic and reveal peel application. This will ensure there is less likelihood of reaction and optimal results are achieved. Ongoing, long term use of ASAP skin products following peel treatments will help prolong the results achieved by the peel. At least for a week before your chemical peel avoid sun exposure and always wear SPF 50+

What is post ASAP peel skin care advice?

– Moisturize the skin as often as needed for comfort.

– Use ASAP moisturizing daily defense SPF and avoid direct sunlight

– Use ASAP soothing gel to assist in calming redness in the first 24 hours.

Blue Light

The benefits of Blue light Therapy

The advantage of blue light therapy is that the intense light that is emitted during the therapy does not contain any ultra violet light which can cause damage to the skin.

Blue light therapies are being used to treat a whole range of different health issues and ailments. However they have been particularly popular for use in treating acne and other skin conditions.

Acne

Blue Light therapy has been widely approved for the treatment of moderate instances of Cystic Acne (that has not responded to other acne therapies). It is an effective treatment for acne because it helps to destroy the bacteria that is causing the skin irritation.

Instances of adult acne are often caused by hormone imbalances, either an overproduction of androgens (male hormones) or an imbalance in estrogen levels.

Oily Skin

Oily skin is the term generally used to describe the effect of an overactive sebaceous gland that can result in large pores and blackheads.

Blue light therapy is considered to be an effective treatment for oily skin. It can help to reduce the activity of the sebaceous gland so that it doesn’t produce as much oil.

Blackheads

Blue light therapy can be used for the treatment of blackheads and severe acne lesions. However it is likely that only small improvements in the appearance of the effected area will be achieved.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a very common red, acne-like skin condition

The main symptoms are small dilated blood vessels, small cysts, and irritated eyes. Some cases may be so mild that people are not aware that they suffer from Rosacea. Blue light therapy has been shown to be particularly effective in reducing and minimising the symptoms of Rosacea. In order to be effective for Rosacea sufferers, the application of blue light therapy for these patients generally requires multiple treatments over a period of three to six weeks. During this period patients are advised to avoid direct sunlight and any other potential triggers to the symptoms of the condition.

Eczema

Blue light therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for eczema. The light therapy suppresses the overactive skin immune system cells that are causing the inflammation.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a localized inflammation triggered by the body’s immune system.

Blue light therapy has been shown to suppress the immune system and thereby help to reduce the inflammatory responses that present as Psoriasis

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks on your skin are generally caused by pregnancy or significant weight loss. Generally occasions where your normal elastic skin is not able to fully adapt to the change in body shape.

Blue light therapy is being used extensively to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Light therapy won’t actually remove the stretch marks from your skin but will help to even out the pigmentation of the marks, so they are less noticeable.

This is particularly effective when the stretch marks are relatively fresh and may be exhibiting bright red or purple colors. Blue light therapy can help to remove this discoloration from the effected area of skin.

Wrinkles

Blue light therapy is being used to help rejuvenate ageing skin and dark spots by helping your skin maintain elasticity and firmness. This can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It will not necessarily smooth the skin, but by keeping the skin as elastic as possible, then it should help avoid wrinkles deepening on the face.

Hyper-Pigmentation or Dark Spots

Hyper-pigmentation is when an area of skin becomes darkened. This is caused by an overproduction of melanin and this could be triggered by sun damage, inflammation or other skin injuries.

Areas of the skin that are most likely to incur hyper pigmentation are your face and the backs of the hands.

People with darker Asian, Mediterranean, or African skin tones are more likely to experience hyper-pigmentation.

Blue light therapy is being used to help treat the signs of hyper-pigmentation by evening out the tone and pigment of the effectedareas.

Melasma

Melasma is a dark skin discoloration that is particularly common in pregnant women or women taking hormone replacement therapy medications.

Areas that are often effected by Melasma are your upper cheek, nose, lips, upper lip, and forehead. The condition will generally develop over time. It is believed to be enhanced by surges in hormones in the body.

Blue light therapy is being used to treat Melasma. It can help to even out the pigment and discoloration that is showing on the skin. However clinical studies are ongoing and so you should consult your dermatologist before beginning any treatment programs.

 Actinic Keratosis & Skin Cancer

Blue light therapy is being used to eliminate the thin, superficial cancer cells known as actinic keratoses. This is particularly effective when treating pre-cancers of the skin.

There are some indications that Blue Light therapy can help as an anti-oxidant, helping to remove free radicals from the body. This would deliver anti-cancer benefits and help fight the signs of ageing (Sick Journal, 2008-2016 )

Are there any side effects or negative reactions of LED light therapy

In traditional light therapy, the main concern in relation to side effects has been the potential impact of long-term or repeated exposure to ultraviolet light. In blue light therapy, the light that is used does not contain ultraviolet light, so there is no longer a risk.

What is collagen Induction treatment? (pen skin needling)

Skin needling has been used since 1995 to achieve percutaneous collagen induction. It is an effective method for treating acne scars and other dermatological lesions. The technique involves puncturing the skin multiple times with a small needle to induce collagen growth. It is a way of building up connective tissue beneath retracted scars and wrinkles. After each session of treatment, the facial skin can appear reddened and swollen, but usually disappearing in 2–3 days, no side effects. The most important is that the epidermis remains intact because it is not damaged, eliminating most of the risks and negative side-effects of laser resurfacing or medium/deep chemical peeling. You may notice that your skin looks refreshed immediately after this procedure, but the bulk of the results will come over several weeks following the treatment. Your skin will be generating more collagen and new skin cells in order to repair itself. As healing continues, the true results of skin needling will appear. The gradual change gives a subtle and natural shift from dull and lined to youthful and dewey. Collagen induction therapy/skin needling treatment to improve your skin texture, smooth wrinkles, fine lines and soften scars. It is suitable for all skin types and all areas of the face, neck, décolletage and hands. The treatment promotes the natural reproduction of collagen and elastin, making the skin feel smoother and tighter. Creating only microscopic punctures in the epidermis, skin needling is minimally invasive with little damage to the epidermis which means the collagen production is significantly quicker than some other more aggressive treatments generally can help treat;

– fine lines,

– dull skin,

– enlarged pores

– acne scars,

– chicken pox scars and surgical scars (more than 6 months old)

– naso-labial lines and smokers lines

– rejuvenation of  face, neck, décolletage and hands ,

Post-op infections are very unlikely. To ensure the right healing environment, for 48 hours don’t not use glycolic acid, retinol, acidic skincare or “active” ingredients.

Facial aftercare

After a Facial Treatment:

– It is recommended not to apply make up for up to 12 hours after the treatment to allow the skin to fully absorb the products used in your treatment, it also allows time for the skin to ‘breathe’ so as not to clog the pores. If you have to wear makeup we recommend ASAP pure mineral makeup.

– Try to avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol where possible as these are highly dehydrating to the skin, making the skin dry and dull.

– Drinking plenty of water (1.5 – 2 litres a day) will greatly improve the skins complexion and help rid the body of toxins giving you a healthy glow.

– Try to avoid the sun immediately after your treatment as the top layer of dead skin cells will have been removed in your treatment therefore making your skin particularly sensitive to sunlight. Don’t forget to protect you skin from UV light on a daily basis to help prevent skin damage.

– Use products recommended to you during your treatment,

Tips for super skin:

– Avoid excessive sun exposure, which damages the skin on all levels. Use a goodsunscreen of at least SPF50+ (ASAP moisturizing daily defense) during the summer and all year round.

– Do not smoke and try to avoid passive smoking. Smoking causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the outermost layers of your skin, impairing blood flow and depleting the skin of oxygen and nutrients. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin, causing the skin to sag and wrinkle prematurely.

– Keep calm and avoid excess stress. Stress promotes an increase of free radicals in the body, a major cause of premature ageing. Regular stress causes the skin to be consistently starved of both blood and oxygen, making it dull and lifeless, less suple, less hydrated and prone to clogged pores and breakouts.

– Limit alcohol and intake of stimulants. Alcohol in particular dilates the blood vessels in the skin and excessive drinking leads to chronic dilation of the capillaries, causing a permanent flush on the face. It also depletes vitamin A in the body.

– Have a fantastic diet, basing it around fresh organic fruit and vegetables and the foods known to encourage healthy ageing. Choose supplements to slow the ageing process, boost your overall nutrient intake and reduce oxidative stress.

Hydrate! The more water you drink, the better your skin can eliminate toxins, retain moisture and stay looking youthful. Six – eight glasses is about right. ( Neals Yard Remedies “Looking good and feeling younger”)

Elleebana eyelash lift

*Please consult your Doctor as this is dependent on the severity of your condition

Waxing Aftercare

Your hair follicles will be open after your treatment, so it is important to avoid the following for 24 hours after your wax:

– Excessive perspiration and friction

– Sauna / Steam room

– Hot bath / Shower / Swimming

– UV exposure

– Fake tan / Body Lotion / Perfume

– Tight clothing

– Deodorant (underarms)

– Make Up (facial waxing)

This will help to prevent bacteria getting into the pores and causing infection.

Must I do anything before having any waxing done

If having your legs, arms, underarms, bikini, Brazilian etc – we do recommend you give the area a gently exfoliation in circular motion (always towards the heart) this will help to remove dead skin cells and free any hair that may be growing slightly under a layer of skin. This helps the waxing procedure go quicker and assures a more even result as well as preventing ingrown hairs.
Do not moisturize after you have exfoliated prior to waxing.

What is eyebrow & eyelash tint?

Eyelash Tinting

Eyelash tinting will benefit people that are sensitive to make-up, people who are active in sports (especially swimming) and people who have no time to apply make-up daily. This process is also ideal for people who wear contact lenses because they don’t have to suffer putting on mascara any longer.
The process involves a quick and non-surgical procedure using special dye as tint. Compared to putting on mascara, the effects of eyelash tinting is very natural. For this reason, most salons and spas cannot lighten the colour of your natural eyelashes.

Eyebrow Tinting

Eyebrow tinting is something that is done at a salon by a specialist. Eyebrow tinting is pretty much dying your eyebrow to match your hair colour. You should never try this at home because the time to keep on tint is much shorter and dye has to be place just right or you will have dye makes above and below your eyebrows

What is eyebrow Henna spa treatment?

A new era in eyebrow tinting and eyebrow design Henna Spa tint offers the perfect alternative to eyebrow tinting, without the use of ammonia or hydrogen peroxide to develop the eyebrow color.  Normal eyebrow tinting just colors the brow hair, but Henna colors both the hair & skin.  The Henna Spa range offers 7 colors that give the brows and amazing powdered tattoo effect that can last up to 5-30 days depending on client skin type and eyebrow aftercare on eyebrow hair as well as stain the skin for up to a week or more depending on your skin type and how eyebrows are cared for after their Henna Spa treatment. Most client results should last on average last 2.5 – 3.5 weeks.

The Henna Spa eyebrow tint process begins with througoughly cleansing the brow area to remove all oils from the eye area, next the skin is exfoliating to remove dead skin cells,  lastly a special shampoo is used to open the hair shaft to allow for a thourough color deposit.  The Henna is mixed then applied to the eyebrows between 15- 20 minutes.  The longer the color is kept on the eyebrows the longer the color stain will last on the skin.  In the final step a sealant is applied the brows to help lock in the color.

Staining henna gives you the opportunity to create expressive eyebrows & camouflage gaps in over tweezed eyebrows or brows with sparse hair.  Spa care allows you to achieve maximum results with staining, prolonging the effect of the procedure, as well as strengthening the hair.
